Sevinc Türkkan earned a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Illinois-Urbana with specialization in Translation Studies, Cross-Cultural Pedagogy, and Certification in Gender and Women Studies.

She is an assistant professor at Syracuse University, teaching courses in writing, translation, and creative nonfiction.

Her translation of 'The Stone Building and Other Places' was a finalist for the prestigious PEN translation award.\

She was named acting Judge for the PEN translation award in 2021.
