In conversation with Aniruddhan Vasudevan (Tamil)

Aniruddhan Vasudevan is a sociocultural anthropologist who writes and translates between Tamil and English. Vasudevan holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin and now teaches at Princeton University, New Jersey.

His translations include One Part Woman, A Lonely Harvest, and Trial by Silence by Perumal Murugan, and A Night with a Black Spider by Ambai.

His area of research is 'how people form structures of care, outside of traditional forms of family and community'. Apart from his translations he closely worked with Tirunangai - The transgender community for his doctoral thesis and the book on his work will soon get published.

He spoke about his initiation into translations, the work he has done with Tirunangai Community, and the book 'Pyre' he translated from Tamil, which was written by Tamil Novelist Perumal Murugan.
